Sarah's challenge to Treasury Ministers over why some companies aren't paying corporation tax

Sarah Champion, the Member of Parliament for Rotherham, has held Treasury Ministers to account over how much money the country is missing out on due to tax avoidance. In particular, Sarah pressed Ministers on why some large companies are allowed to get away without paying anything in corporation tax, yet councils like Rotherham's are having to deal with funding cuts which have impacted on local residents.

In the House of Commons recently, Sarah asked what estimate HM Revenue and Customs have made of the amount of uncollected tax in the UK. According to the latest figures from HMRC published on 16 October 2014, the tax gap was estimated to be £34 billion or 6.8% of the total due.
