Sarah Presses Treasury for £750,000 of New Funding for 1400 Victims
Today Sarah met with Treasury Minister Priti Patel to request three quarters of a million pounds in new funding for support and justice for the 1400 Rotherham victims The money would be spent to fund a range of initiatives that would enable the victims to move forwards with their lives and resource the police to prosecute the abusers.
From discussions with Alexis Jay and on-going talks with the multi-agency child sexual exploitation team Champion believes there is capacity to deal with new cases, but is very concerned that earlier victims receive justice too.
Sarah commented:
"Child Protection Services failed Rotherham's children in the past. In order to move forward we need to make sure that resources are in place to give support and justice to the 1400 victims who have been so appallingly let down. The only way that can happen is if additional resources are found. I am very pleased that the Treasury Minister understood this and I will continue pressing her until we get the cash."
